The City Council of Naples and delegates from the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) met to assess the progress of the renovation project for the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium, aiming to make it one of the venues for Euro 2032, which Italy will co-host with Turkey. The goal is for the construction work not to interfere with the scheduling of matches at the venue. "We presented the current status of the new Maradona project, particularly the design of the entire internal system with the new first tier near the field," said the Infrastructure Councillor, Edoardo Cosenza, after updating the federative representatives during the meeting held at Palazzo San Giacomo. "The project is entirely executed in BIM [Building Information Modeling, a 3D virtual construction method that integrates processes, technologies, and people to create and manage information for a project], which allows for great precision and flexibility. All seats meet UEFA's visibility requirements," he added. The Naples municipality then presented the public with the first images of the project. The stadium renovation, budgeted at 200 million euros, aims to increase the venue's capacity from 54,000 to 70,000 seats; reopen the third tier; eliminate the athletics track to bring the stands closer to the pitch; expand the existing roof; install a video ring around the stadium; create new sky boxes, field boxes, and VIP seats in the central stand; and symmetrically centralize the playing field.
