The English referee Anthony Taylor, 47, has been appointed by UEFA for the FC Porto – Stuttgart match this Thursday, the second leg of the UEFA Europa League Round of 16. This will be the fourth time Taylor officiates at the Dragão, and the memories for Porto fans are not the best. In the three previous matches, FC Porto has only won one — 2-0 against Leverkusen in the group stage of the UEFA Champions League in 2022/2023 — losing the other two — also in the Champions group stage, 1-3 against Besiktas in 2017 and 0-1 against Barcelona in 2023. Taylor has already been in Portugal this year, in January, officiating the Sporting – PSG (2-1) match in the penultimate round of the Champions league phase. At the Dragão, the English referee will be assisted by Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn, with Darren England as the fourth official. The VAR is also English, Michael Salisbury, but the AVAR is French: Jérôme Brisard. FC Porto won in Germany, 2-1, in the first leg.
