De Zerbi Credits Tottenham’s Renewed Unity for First Premier League Win of Season

Tottenham Hotspur manager Roberto De Zerbi has attributed the club’s first Premier League win of the 2026 season to improved team unity fostered by a clear-the-air players’ meeting and a bonding trip. This renewed togetherness was a driving force behind their 3-1 home victory over Coventry City on Monday night.

Tottenham began the season in a difficult position near the bottom of the table, struggling to find form and cohesion. A pivotal moment came before their recent match against Manchester United, when the squad held an open discussion aimed at addressing internal issues and boosting morale. Spurs then secured a resilient 1-1 draw away at Old Trafford despite being reduced to ten men, signaling a positive shift in the team’s spirit.

Building on that momentum, Tottenham’s win against Coventry lifted them out of the relegation zone for the first time this season. While De Zerbi acknowledged that the performance could have been stronger, he expressed satisfaction with the players’ attitude and determination, which he sees as vital for the team’s progress.

The Italian coach emphasized the importance of the players’ bonding trip and open communication in creating a "family-like" environment within the squad. This atmosphere of trust and support appears to be having a tangible impact on Tottenham’s confidence and performances on the pitch.

With the Premier League season entering its crucial stages, Tottenham’s improved form comes at an important time. Accumulating points now is essential for Spurs to climb up the table and avoid a relegation battle, a scenario De Zerbi is keen to steer clear of.

Looking ahead, Tottenham will aim to maintain their positive trajectory in upcoming fixtures, consolidating their position and building on the unity and resilience that have recently emerged under De Zerbi’s leadership.
