Inter Milan Return to Serie A Summit with Late Own Goals While Milan Suffer First League Defeat

Inter Milan reclaimed first place in Serie A after securing a tense 2-0 victory against bottom-placed Venezia, with two late own goals deciding the match. This win moved Inter level on points with Lazio at the summit ahead of a crucial Milan derby clash.

The match took place on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, with Inter facing a struggling Venezia side that remains anchored at the bottom of the table. Despite the pressure, Inter managed to break the deadlock late in the game thanks to two unfortunate own goals from Venezia defenders.

Meanwhile, AC Milan suffered their first league defeat of the season at San Siro, losing 4-2 to Bologna. Samuel Mbangula was the standout performer, netting a hat-trick that proved decisive in overcoming Milan's resistance. Alphadjo Cisse scored twice for Milan, but it was not enough to maintain their unbeaten record.

This loss for Milan marks a significant shift in the Serie A title race, as the champions Inter now share the top spot and will face their city rivals in a highly anticipated derby on Saturday. The defeat also ends Milan's strong start to the season, potentially impacting their confidence and momentum going forward.

For Inter, the victory and return to the top of the table provide a morale boost ahead of the derby, where they will look to capitalize on their regained position. Venezia, still struggling at the bottom, will need to regroup quickly to avoid further damage in the relegation battle.

The next round of fixtures will be critical for both Milan clubs, with the derby set to play a pivotal role in shaping the Serie A standings. Fans and analysts alike will be watching closely to see if Inter can consolidate their lead or if Milan can bounce back from their first setback this season.
