The Moroccan national team made history in the match against Brazil, and this has nothing to do with the draw in the debut of both teams in the 2026 World Cup. The reason for entering the history books is that for the first time in a World Cup, a team took the field with 11 players born outside the country they represent. Morocco has a large diaspora, and in the starting eleven against Brazil, only Azzedine Ounahi was born in the North African country. However, at the 64th minute, when the Girona midfielder was substituted by Samir El Mourabet, all the players remaining on the field were born outside of Morocco. In total, athletes born in five different countries represented the nation, four in Europe and one in America. Check out the gallery below for the foreign players of the Moroccan national team.
